Saturday, May 10, 2014 4:55:21 PM Asia/Tokyo

Ever wonder what to do when you have few hours to kill or during stay over in Narita?

I see lots of flight crews and tourists at Aeon Shopping Mall.  While the mall is certainly a good place to go, you may just want to relax away from hustle and bustle.  What I am about to show you may be a place you want to try.

Located in middle of rice fields, about 1/2 hour drive from Narita International airport is hidden bathhouse/onsen.

Chicken Sashimi Anyone?

Saturday, November 30, 2013 4:28:00 PM Asia/Tokyo

Yes, you read it right.  It's chicken and yes it is sashimi, which means it is served raw!

It is not well known thru out Japan, but if you travel to southern Japan, some parts of Kyushu eating Chicken raw is quire common practice.  First time I had it was years ago when I travelled to Kagoshima.  This time in Hakata I decided to try again when I saw the menu in the Izakaya I walked into.

Driving in Japan

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 3:58:53 PM Asia/Tokyo

In Japan, cars are driven on left hand side of the street and driver sits on right hand side.

This may seem strange depending on where you are from.  I for one found this little tricky as I have learned to drive in Canada and never driven in Japan until just few years ago.  If you are planning to drive in Japan, one can obtain an International Driving License before leaving your country.

Visit to Tochigi

Thursday, October 3, 2013 3:51:42 PM Asia/Tokyo

About few weeks ago my partner and I decided to drive to Tochigi Prefecture.

Perhaps, first thing comes to mind for Tochigi is Nikko, where the great Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu rests, a place crowded with tourists as it is a UNESCO heritage site.  Yes, Nikko Shrine is worth seeing for those who likes such but I would like to show you something different.

I am far from qualified to speak about table manners but coming back to Japan, I have realized that Japanese table manners are a bit out of the norm from many cultures.

First, table settings are layed out, so that you will be using the chopsticks with your right hand.  Many Japanese are taught to

Shopping Idea, D&Department

Saturday, August 17, 2013 12:43:01 PM Asia/Tokyo

I have recently come across an interesting place to shop.

D&Department, what Japanese call "select shop."  Select Shop is, in a nut shell retailer of collection of various designers' and manufacturers' items  selected by owner or operator's concept.  Or you can call it specialty department store, in much smaller scale.
